Een hoogleraar psychologie geeft colleges aan een universiteit en levert een bijdrage aan de vormgeving van het onderwijs. Verricht daarnaast wetenschappelijk onderzoek op het gebied van de psychologie. Onderzoekt elk facet van het menselijk bestaan en het waarom daarvan. Houdt zich bezig met de manier waarop menselijk gedrag zich in een bepaalde periode of omgeving ontwikkelt. Is eindverantwoordelijk voor het onderzoek binnen de faculteit. Voorbeelden van werkzaamheden: doceert, ondersteunt onderzoekers, begeleidt studenten bij (promotie)onderzoek, schrijft artikelen, rapporten en boeken over wetenschappelijke bevindingen, maakt promotie voor het vakgebied en bedenkt activiteiten om het vakgebied te ontwikkelen.
